It is normal for us to sometimes worry about what the future holds. Natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes destroy millions of homes every year and leave families stranded for months. The world is a dangerous place and we can only do so much to prepare for what is to come. Here are several emergency items in your manufactured home that you should have in case of an unforeseen circumstance.
Emergency Kit
One way to always stay prepared is to create an emergency kit. We have put together a list of essential items that will help you get all the important things ready should an emergency situation arise. You may still add more items inside your emergency kit according to your personal needs. These essential items could save your life so always stay prepared ahead of time.
Water
Freshwater is a must-have for every household. It is recommended for you to store enough water in your emergency kit to last you at least up to three days. You can choose to store bottled water or in large gallon jugs depending on the needs of your household. Replace your water every two years to ensure it stays fresh. Always keep water in a dark area and away from direct sunlight.
Food
Prepare enough food for the family to stay nourished for at least three to five days. You can prepare canned foods, granola bars, dried foods or military rations that are easy to prepare even without hot water. If you intend to store canned foods, be sure to keep a can opener handy within the same emergency kit. Military rations can be prepared with just water and they last for up to three to five years. Again, replace your food rations every six months or select food items that can last longer if you do not intend to keep replacing them.
First Aid Kit
Essential items in a first aid kit:
Large bandages
Band-aids and butterfly closures
Tweezers and medical scissors
Gauze
Antiseptic wipes
Non-latex gloves
Aspirin
Ibuprofen
Antibiotics
Emergency Blanket
If any family member is sick or injured, he/she may start to develop hypothermia. This is when an emergency blanket will come in handy. Emergency blankets do not take much room and they are very affordable too. There are several sizes to choose from but most of them are able to accommodate several people underneath.
Flashlights And Batteries
A natural disaster may cut off your power supply and having flashlights and batteries may help to save lives. Remember to replace the batteries every five years to ensure they work fine when an emergency does take place. You may also consider getting solar-powered flashlights as a backup.
Cell Phone Charging Cords
There are many generic charging cords that you can get at an affordable price. Having a functioning cell phone during an emergency situation can really help you get hold of the assistance you need in a much shorter time frame.
Radio
Get a hand-crank radio so you can stay up-to-date on the latest news regarding natural disasters. Many important information such as the location of evacuation centers and situation evolutions may also be transmitted over radio stations.
